Let’s take this ‘Strange’ little test, below is a description of a very famous movie directed by Sam Raimi that’s been on everyone’s mind:
“ Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell
that opens a portal to the multiverse.
However, a threat emerges that may be too big for his team to handle.”
For all those who are fans of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), you don’t need any such description, just the word ‘Strange’ would trigger a flurry of Doctor Strange visuals, fan theories, deductions of trailers, and your brain becomes the MCU in no time. This, however, is not the sequence of events that would happen in the average moviegoer’s mind.
Let’s call this average moviegoer, “Thanos” for the lack of a better name. Mr. Thanos at first glance would not even consider reading that description but even if he does, there is less than a slim chance of him wanting to watch the movie, though if he saw this along with the description:
There’s a higher chance, that Benedict Cumberbatch’s face, the all-red, eye-catching poster would draw him to the box office to buy a ticket to this movie.
The reason the average human brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than simple text!
What I am trying to say is;
“The art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.”
And that was just what the Oxford dictionary says about graphic designing!
Graphic Design and marketing
While many billion-dollar businesses exist and try to sustain themselves, a big chunk of their brand’s recall value is thanks to excellent graphic design as part of their marketing initiatives.
Here are the 3 main reasons why graphic design is important for any business whatsoever:
Like a wise man once said,
1. The first impression is the last impression
Graphic design is an important tool to help any business make a positive, lasting impression. The first time a visitor interacts with your brand will set the tone for the rest of your business relationship.
Your website’s landing page, the brand logo, your first ad campaign; one can consider these the most crucial for brand image, and a key part of it all – Graphic design!
Mcdonald’s, Starbucks, Zomato, etc. have all cemented their identities in their consumer’s minds with the golden arches, the siren, and even plain and simple color and font unique to their own brand!
2. Consistency of design
No matter what industry or field you’re in, graphic design will help your business create credibility. When your creative content helps solve problems and relieve pain points, your customers are more likely to view you as a trustworthy authority in your field.
Let’s say you create valuable social media content that viewers really do appreciate — but each post looks different from the last, without adhering to a brand guide. Your existing audience may know about your content gold mine, but newcomers will most likely be turned off by the graphic mishmash that is your social media profile.
Creating a unified aesthetic will help your brand look truly authoritative and believable.
3. Effective Story-telling
Every marketing campaign has a story to tell. Whether you’re a solopreneur selling homemade jewelry online or a serial entrepreneur starting your next venture, there are people out there who will be happy to know about what your business offers.
From elaborate designs for visual storytelling to simple decisions about font and color schemes can affect the message that you are trying to convey.
